I'm Ryan Berkley, and I'm running for the Johnson City Board of Education.
I'm a dad, a small business owner, and a neighbor who never left. Our schools are in good shape, and I want to help keep them that way. Good schools don't stay good by accident. They stay good because people pay attention.

My son walks into a Johnson City school every morning. When the board votes on something, I'm one of the people who has to live with it at the kitchen table that night.
Small business owner
I run an air filtration company with locations here and in Nashville. I hire people, I read contracts, and I've spent a lot of years learning what a maintenance plan is worth and what it costs to skip one.
Neighbor
I grew up in Tennessee, went to ETSU, and chose to stay in Johnson City. This isn't a stop for me. It's home.
There are five people on the ballot for this board. I'm the only one with a child in a Johnson City classroom right now. One member currently serving has a child in our high school. If you elect me, that's two of us at the table who get the same emails you do and see the same homework you do.
Three things I'd get to work on

Getting technology right
Starting in 2026 and 2027, the state expects our schools to teach students about AI. We should decide how we handle that instead of letting it happen to us.

Taking care of what we built
Federal relief money replaced HVAC systems at three of our schools. That money is gone now, and those systems have an expiration date.

A board member you can actually reach
Monthly office hours, a phone number that gets answered, and a plain-English summary after every meeting.
